Marcus Mumford, 39, has revealed the details behind his significant weight loss, shedding nearly five stone (approximately 30kg), a transformation he attributes to a commitment to sobriety, increased physical activity, and a new approach to touring.
A Shift in Perspective
Mumford described a pivotal moment when he felt he was "not in control" and sought guidance from a doctor friend to regain a sense of agency over his body. This led him to adopt a healthier lifestyle, viewing his tours less as parties and more as an "athletics programme."
New Routine on the Road
The musician incorporated a variety of activities into his routine, including running, which he began during the COVID-19 pandemic, and strength training. Mumford & Sons now travel with a portable gym rig, which has become a regular part of his daily regimen and is also utilized by other members of the tour. The band also engages in playing 8-a-side football matches.
Mumford also shared that he gave up alcohol approximately seven to eight years ago. His surfing has reportedly improved as a result of his enhanced general health.
Past Fitness Endeavors
While Mumford has completed marathons in the past, he has since shifted his focus to gym-based workouts due to the impact on his knees.
Personal Life
Mumford, who is married to actress Carey Mulligan and has three children, previously discussed his admiration for his wife in an interview with The Guardian, calling her a "legend." The couple met at summer camp as children and later reconnected, with Mumford proposing five months after they began dating in 2011.
