Chef Marco Pierre White reignited a nearly two-decade-old feud with Jamie Oliver, stating he refused to participate in a new BBC show until Oliver was removed from the lineup. White, 64, made the comments while promoting Gordon Ramsay's upcoming documentary, "Rise Of The Rockstar Chef," which also features Heston Blumenthal.
White explained that he told producers that while he, Ramsay, and Blumenthal had earned Michelin stars, Oliver had not. "How many stars did Jamie Oliver win? He's not part of our jigsaw," White told Radio Times. He revealed to the "Spooning with Mark Wogan" podcast that producers initially approached him for the four-part series. After learning Oliver was also set to be featured, White declined. The offer was renewed the next day with the condition that Oliver would be dropped.
The rivalry between White and Oliver dates back to 2007, when White referred to Oliver as a "fat chef with a drum kit." In 2019, White called Oliver "delusional" for not admitting fault after his restaurant chain's collapse.
Oliver has largely remained silent on the feud, though he acknowledged last year on the Louis Theroux Podcast that White "doesn't like me at all." He stated, "I don't know why. I have no shared history with him."
"Rise Of The Rockstar Chef" chronicles the careers of White, Ramsay, and Blumenthal. The series reportedly features a reunion of the three chefs, whose past interactions have been contentious. In 2003, a meeting at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck restaurant reportedly ended in an argument between White and Ramsay. The documentary also includes interviews with other culinary figures and celebrities, including Raymond Blanc, Angela Hartnett, Marcus Wareing, Lenny Henry, and Stanley Tucci.
The show explores how the three chefs influenced the British restaurant scene. Ramsay, who worked under White early in his career, described the experience as being part of "Marco's mafia." The documentary is set to explore their complex mentor-mentee relationships and fierce rivalries.
"Rise of the Rockstar Chef" premieres on BBC2 on Thursday at 9 p.m.
