ORLANDO, Fla. — A patron died after riding a roller coaster at Epic Universe, Universal Orlando's newest theme park, authorities said. The man, in his 30s, was found unresponsive after riding the coaster on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff's Office provided to The Associated Press.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No further details were immediately released early Thursday. Epic Universe opened in May, the first major, traditional theme park to open in Florida since 1999's Islands of Adventure. The park features five themed lands and a 500-room hotel, expanding Universal Orlando Resort’s footprint alongside Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. With Epic Universe, the resort now operates four parks, joining its original trio and the water park. Authorities said there was no immediate information about the cause of death, and investigators will review available records and footage as part of the ongoing inquiry.
