Malin Akerman told Jenna Bush Hager on Monday that Netflix has not yet officially renewed the streamer’s thriller The Hunting Wives for a second season, but she expressed confidence the show will return and said producers are prepared to take it elsewhere if necessary.

Appearing on Today With Jenna & Friends, Akerman said cast and crew remain hopeful even though no renewal has been announced. "We honestly don't know! I wish I was here with better news. But I feel like we all know that there's gonna be a second season without confirming," she told host Jenna Bush Hager.

Akerman outlined a fallback plan should Netflix decline to pick up another season. "We're hoping, fingers crossed. But if Netflix doesn't take it, I mean we'll shop it over at Amazon, maybe. Someone's gotta take it!" she said, later directly imploring the streamer: "Netflix come on, just do it! It's gonna be great!" Bush Hager suggested Peacock as another potential home for the series.

The Hunting Wives, adapted from May Cobb's 2021 novel, centers on a woman who moves from Boston to Texas and becomes entangled with a clique of glamorous housewives led by a mysterious socialite, played by Akerman. Brittany Snow stars as the protagonist who discovers that the group's polished surface hides deadly secrets. The series debuted on Netflix earlier this year and has attracted attention for its steamy, suspense-driven storytelling.

On Today, Akerman also issued a lighthearted invitation to Bush Hager to visit the set should a second season proceed. When Bush Hager demurred, saying she does not know how to hunt, Akerman laughed that hunting skills are not a prerequisite for joining the cast. Today With Jenna & Friends airs weekdays at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Industry analysts note that streaming renewals can be delayed while platforms assess viewership metrics, production costs and international performance. Series often await formal renewal announcements even when producers and cast are optimistic about continuation. Akerman’s remarks reflect a common posture among creators and performers who seek to maintain public momentum while negotiations continue.

No official statement from Netflix about The Hunting Wives’ future was available at the time of Akerman’s interview. Representatives for the show’s production companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
