Gemma Rose Barnes, a participant on Married At First Sight, recently welcomed her second son, Remy, with husband Jordan Bishop. The birth occurred around Rainbow Baby Day, a significant occasion for Barnes who has experienced seven miscarriages.
Remy was born at 34 weeks gestation via caesarean section after Barnes's waters broke early. The newborn was initially placed in a higher dependency unit due to breathing difficulties but is reportedly doing well. Barnes and Bishop are also parents to a two-year-old son, Franklin.
Following the birth, Barnes shared her difficulties with postpartum recovery, detailing significant pain around her caesarean incision and abdomen. She described experiencing increasing pain for six days, which she felt was not adequately addressed by multiple medical professionals. Barnes stated that she was told by one doctor that her pain was psychological, only for another physician to later recommend an emergency scan, IV antibiotics, and pain management, indicating signs of a hematoma and fluid collection.
Barnes also recounted a previous experience with sepsis after the birth of her first child, which she said was not diagnosed for 10 days. She expressed concerns about PTSD and feeling that her symptoms were not being taken seriously, leading to a delay in appropriate care. She updated followers that fluid pockets in her abdomen had doubled in size despite 36 hours of IV antibiotics, and her scar had begun leaking fluid, a phenomenon noted as unusual by medical staff.
Her husband, Jordan Bishop, was instrumental in advocating for her care. Barnes described him sleeping in the hospital for nearly a week and confronting a doctor who had previously dismissed her symptoms. Bishop's intervention led to a consultation with a lead consultant who confirmed signs of a hematoma and the need for an emergency scan.
Hematoma is defined as a collection of blood outside of blood vessels, typically resulting from an injury that damages a blood vessel. Barnes previously detailed the severe physical and mental health challenges she endured for 18 months following sepsis after her first child's birth, including speech difficulties, extreme fatigue, womb pain, and significant strain on her relationship with Bishop.
Barnes married Bishop in Las Vegas in December 2025. Her appearance on Married At First Sight in 2022 was with Matt Murray, an experience she has described as leading to a breakdown, panic attacks, homelessness, and bankruptcy. She has since undergone gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey and stated she has found her "happily ever after."
