Married At First Sight star Bec Zacharia, 35, has revealed she is still making a decision about undergoing a controversial 'Barbie waist' surgery in Bali. Zacharia had previously withdrawn from the procedure earlier this week following significant public backlash.
In an Instagram video, Zacharia stated that she needs to make a final decision by Thursday. She explained that she is extending her stay in Bali by another week to allow for more reflection on the procedure. "It's not a no, but it's not a yes right now," she said. "I'm just going to give myself some breathing room and some thinking room and work out what I want to do."
Zacharia had arrived at a Bali hospital prepared for the rib contouring operation but ultimately decided not to proceed at the last minute. She described the facility as state-of-the-art and expressed confidence in the surgeons, but questioned her readiness for the surgery. "I walked in and I thought, 'Am I ready? Is this what I want to do?'" she recalled. "I just think that I'm going to take a little bit of time to think about it a little bit more."
The body-contouring procedure, which reshapes lower floating ribs to create a smaller waist, is not available in Australia. It has gained popularity among influencers.
The decision to consider the surgery sparked debate online, with some accusing influencers of promoting unrealistic beauty standards. Former MAFS contestant Domenica Calarco criticized the trend, and another MAFS star, Beck Zemek, warned against undergoing procedures for insecurities that did not previously exist, noting the potential risks involved.
Zacharia emphasized that the company organizing her trip had not pressured her to proceed with the operation, stating she has the full ability to make a decision that aligns with her personal choices.
