Madonna has achieved a historic feat, becoming the first female artist to have No. 1 albums on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart spanning five distinct decades. This milestone was reached with the release of her 15th studio album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II," which debuted at the top of the charts on July 3.

The album, a follow-up to her 2005 record of the same name, marks Madonna's 10th album to reach the No. 1 position, tying a record previously held by The Beatles. At 67, the singer is now recognized for this unprecedented chart longevity.

In response to the album's success, Madonna shared her gratitude on Instagram, expressing her surprise and appreciation for the reception. "Words cannot express how grateful and surprised I am by the incredible reception 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' has received," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this and who has helped make this dream come true. Especially my Fans. The Goodwill and positivity has been incredible. I'm still pinching myself."

"Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II" saw strong performance driven by physical album sales, with 114,000 pure album sales in its first week, alongside 19,000 in streaming-equivalent units. Madonna had previously expressed tempered expectations for chart success with her latest project, a sentiment she also shared regarding the original "Confessions on a Dance Floor."

In a June interview with Graham Norton on a BBC special, Madonna stated, "I don't have any expectations. I have been doing this for a long time. You know, hope for the best, prepare for the worst." She reflected on the original album's unexpected success, calling it "mind-blowing."

The new album has also garnered positive reviews from critics, with aggregators like Metacritic noting it as one of the most acclaimed pop releases of 2026. The Daily Mail awarded the album four out of five stars, describing it as "uniformly excellent" and a return to the artist's musical origins.

"Confessions II" was primarily produced by Stuart Price, who also collaborated on the 2005 album and Madonna's hit "Hung Up." The record features contributions from artists such as Martin Garrix, Cirkut, Arca, and Tainy. Notably, Madonna's daughter, Lourdes "Lola" Leon, makes a guest appearance on the track "The Test." Madonna herself was involved in writing and co-producing every song on the album, with critics highlighting its personal nature.

The pop superstar's latest record - a follow-up to her 2005 album of the same name - debuted at number one on America's Billboard 200 chart following its release on July 3.
