Madonna has revealed that she experienced jealousy towards fellow singer Kylie Minogue, believing her ex-husband had a crush on the Australian artist. The admission came during an interview on The Graham Norton Show, where Minogue was also present.
"I was actually a little bit jealous of you," Madonna told Minogue during the segment. When asked for the reason, Madonna explained, "Because she was so cute. I think my ex-husband at the time had a crush on her. I was like, 'I'll never be as beautiful as Kylie.'"
Madonna recounted an incident from the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards, where she wore a T-shirt she had customized with Minogue's name emblazoned across it in rhinestones. "I was in my Western mode, rhinestoning everything, and I was trying to think of singers that I'm slightly in love with," Madonna recalled. "And so naturally, I thought of Kylie and had a T-shirt made of her."
Minogue, who performed with Robbie Williams at the same awards show that year, described her reaction to seeing the T-shirt. "There was no warning," she said. "I don't know what I did, probably just stopped shy of fainting. It was amazing."
Madonna was married to director Guy Ritchie from 2000 to 2008. She was also previously married to Sean Penn from 1985 to 1989. While Madonna did not specify which ex-husband she was referring to, she had married Ritchie in 2000, the same year she wore the Minogue T-shirt.
Madonna, 67, is preparing for the release of her 15th studio album, "Confessions II," scheduled for July 3, and plans for a world tour in support of the new music. Minogue, 58, recently released the single "Padam Padam."
