Lucy Davis, known for her role as receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the U.K. version of "The Office," announced Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with incurable Stage 4 breast cancer. The British comedian and actress shared the news in an Instagram post, revealing that the cancer has metastasized to her bones, including her spine, right hip, and ribs.

Davis stated that the disease is beyond the point where chemotherapy would be effective. "The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo," she wrote in her post. She detailed that the initial lump was small and easily missed, urging her followers to get any concerning signs checked immediately. "So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything – get everything checked out," she advised.

Despite the serious diagnosis, Davis expressed a determination to live the remainder of her life in a positive and fulfilling way. "As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can," she stated. She has found lessons in the experience and expressed gratitude for what she has learned. However, she also acknowledged the physical toll, noting that pain can be significant and she sometimes requires a wheelchair for mobility.

Humor has been a crucial coping mechanism for Davis. She has asked friends and family to tease her and, more importantly, to avoid treating her as if she is unwell. "There’s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you’re unwell," she explained.

Davis conveyed a sense of peace regarding her prognosis. "I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it," she wrote. She views leaving her physical body as "going home" and expressed that any grief associated with her condition will be hardest for her family.

She plans to continue acting, citing it as one of the greatest joys in her life, and intends to maintain her work as an animal rights activist. Davis extended well wishes to others facing similar health challenges, acknowledging the significant physical and mental demands of cancer.

Fellow actors and colleagues responded to her announcement. Ricky Gervais, who co-created "The Office" and starred alongside Davis, shared a red heart emoji on her post. Edgar Wright, director of "Shaun of the Dead," where Davis also appeared, commented, "Love you Lucy. Always. See you very soon." Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly in the U.S. "The Office," wrote, "Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let’s spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!" Piers Morgan also offered his condolences, praising her courage for speaking so openly about her diagnosis.
