Actress Lucy Davis, known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the UK version of "The Office," has revealed that she has been diagnosed with incurable stage four breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones.
Davis, 53, shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, stating that she does not know how much time she has left. She detailed how she discovered a small, hard spot in her breast a year and a half ago, which she almost did not have checked. The cancer has spread to her spine, hip, and ribs, and she has been told it is too late for chemotherapy.
Despite the grim prognosis, Davis expressed a sense of peace with her situation. "I'm at peace with whatever comes next," she wrote in her post. "I'll see my Gracie [her dog] sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home." She added that her primary focus is on living out the remainder of her life in a positive way and finding teachable moments, emphasizing the vital role of humor and the importance of not being treated as a sick person.
Davis also stated her intention to continue her work for animal rights and acting, as she feels able to do so.
Following her announcement, Davis received numerous messages of support from fellow celebrities. Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly in "The Office" US version and has previously battled breast cancer herself, wrote, "Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let’s spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!"
Amanda Abbington, who co-starred with Davis, sent "the biggest cuddle and all my love," calling her an "incredible f*****g woman." Piers Morgan described the news as "devastating" and praised Davis's "courage in talking about this so honestly."
Other messages came from Ulrika Jonsson and "Gavin & Stacey" star Laura Aikman. A statement from Breast Cancer Now acknowledged Davis's openness, noting that her story will resonate with many living with metastatic breast cancer, which remains incurable. The organization emphasized the need for increased research and improved treatments.
Davis, daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, is also known for her role as Etta Candy in the 2017 film "Wonder Woman." She has previously spoken about other health challenges, including a kidney transplant in 1997 and a past struggle with bulimia that peaked around her divorce in 2011.
