Actress Lucy Davis, known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the British comedy "The Office," has shared that she has been diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 breast cancer. The 53-year-old revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday that the cancer has spread to her bones, including her spine, right hip, and ribs.
Davis stated that the cancer is incurable and too late for chemotherapy. She explained that she discovered a "tiny, hard spot" in her breast about a year and a half ago and almost did not get it checked. "So I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything - get everything checked out," she advised her followers.
Despite the diagnosis, Davis expressed that she is "at peace with whatever comes next." She shared an emotional video of herself ringing a cancer treatment bell, noting that she was told it was "too late" for chemotherapy. She is focusing on living the remainder of her life in a positive way and finds gratitude in the lessons cancer has taught her.
She acknowledged the significant pain associated with the illness, mentioning that standing and walking for extended periods can be difficult, sometimes requiring the use of a wheelchair. Humor has been vital for her, and she has asked friends and family to tease her, emphasizing the importance of not being treated as a sick person.
"I'm not scared of whatever comes next. I'm at peace with it," Davis wrote. "I'll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it's far harder for them than for me."
Davis, who also starred in "Wonder Woman" and "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," plans to continue her work for animal rights and acting, as she feels capable of doing so and finds joy in her profession.
This is not the first time Davis has faced significant health challenges. In 1997, she received a kidney transplant, with an organ donated by her mother. She is also diabetic and required hospitalization for kidney failure in 2005, though she made a full recovery. Davis has also been open about her past struggles with bulimia, which peaked around 2011 during her divorce. She has since spoken about her journey to recovery and acceptance of her body.
Davis is the daughter of British comedian Jasper Carrott.
