Lucy Davis, an actress recognized for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of "The Office," has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that is incurable. The 53-year-old actress shared this personal news via an Instagram post on Tuesday, revealing that the cancer has metastasized to her spine, right hip, and ribs.

Davis, who is the daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, explained that the cancer is too advanced for chemotherapy. She recounted discovering the cancer as a small, hard spot that she almost overlooked. This experience has led her to urge others not to ignore any physical changes and to seek medical attention for them.

"I wanted to share something with you all that I've kept to myself for a while but for various reasons would like to share now," Davis wrote in her post. "A year-and-a-half ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo."

She added, "The initial lump that I felt, wasn't a 'lump' as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn't bother getting it checked. So I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything – get everything checked out."

The actress stated her intention to live the remainder of her life as fully and enjoyably as possible, emphasizing her practice of finding teachable moments in negative experiences. "Cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there's a lot I have learned from it, and I'm grateful for that," she commented.

Davis expressed a sense of peace regarding her prognosis. "I'm not scared of whatever comes next. I'm at peace with it. I'll see my [late dog] Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it's far harder for them than for me."

Birmingham-born Davis has had a varied acting career beyond "The Office," which originally aired from 2001 to 2003. Her other notable roles include Dianne in the 2004 comedy-horror film "Shaun of the Dead," Etta Candy in the 2017 film "Wonder Woman," and Hilda Spellman in the Netflix series "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina." More recently, she has appeared as Eva in the Disney Channel's action-comedy series "The Villains of Valley View."
