On Saturday nights in downtown Los Angeles, a unique warehouse party offers an alternative to traditional nightlife. The event, called “Remember Those Quiet Evenings,” swaps high-energy electronic dance music for ambient sounds and glow sticks for blankets.
On July 11, guests arrived with pillows and settled onto the floor to listen to Tibetan singing bowls, modular synthesizers, and effected guitar. Before the main performance, attendees engaged in activities like eating, talking, and journaling, preparing for an evening focused on stillness.
The gathering is the creation of Adam Weiss, a seasoned Los Angeles event promoter who previously organized underground warehouse parties. After 17 years of sobriety, Weiss found that the traditional party atmosphere no longer aligned with his life. He sought to create "wholesome events" that fostered connection through meditation and reflection, blending these concepts with the ambiance of an underground music event.
"The whole idea of this is just an invite to slow down and pause, and invite in stillness," Weiss stated.
Once settled, the audience experienced live music, with Weiss performing singing bowls and chimes alongside other musicians creating atmospheric synth and guitar sounds. Attendees described the experience as akin to a sound bath but with a more substantial live musical element, with some reporting feeling well-rested and more in touch with themselves after the event.
