Close associates of Lionel Richie are expressing concern that the 77-year-old entertainer may not be ready to scale back his demanding schedule, even after a medical emergency forced him to cut short a concert. The incident occurred Wednesday night at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Richie was performing before being transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Sources close to the singer told the Daily Mail that his inner circle, including friends and bandmates, are worried about his well-being but acknowledge his relentless work ethic. Richie, known for hits from the 1980s and his time with The Commodores, has a long-standing reputation for being constantly active and focused on his next performance.

"The Lionel we see on tour and on American Idol is the same Lionel we have known for decades – he's always moving, always working, and always looking ahead to the next show," one insider shared. The source added that if doctors advise him to slow down, Richie's immediate inclination would be to plan his return to the stage as quickly as possible, a testament to his inherent nature.

Music is described as more than just a job for Richie; it's what motivates him. Retirement, according to the source, has not been a significant topic of discussion unless his health conditions necessitate it. Currently, Richie is reportedly more concerned about the fans not receiving the full concert experience they paid for than about his own health.

He is awaiting medical results and views the incident as a temporary setback. Richie is reportedly hoping to perform in Chicago as scheduled this weekend, assuming his health permits. He believes it may have been a minor episode rather than something serious.

The concert interruption began when Richie announced an unusual intermission after performing "Three Times A Lady" from his piano. His band also reportedly left the stage shortly after. Approximately 40 minutes later, a band member informed the audience that Richie was not feeling well and could not continue the show.

"Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well," saxophonist Dino Soldo told the audience, according to reports. "He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available."

Fans at the show shared on social media that Richie had appeared unsteady during his performance, stopping to sit down multiple times while singing "Dancing On The Ceiling" and telling the crowd he felt "dizzy." One concertgoer recounted Richie advising the audience, "When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a** down!"

Images from the performance showed Richie appearing unsteady, pausing to sit on the edge of a platform during "Dancing On The Ceiling," though he continued to sing. He reportedly sat for brief periods before standing and walking again, even as his saxophonist also took a seat with him. Audience members began to leave the venue about 15 minutes after Richie's band departed the stage.

Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are scheduled for their next performance in Chicago on Friday, June 26, as part of their joint "Sing A Song All Night Long" tour, which is set to run through August 14.
