Lionel Richie was hospitalized on Monday in St. Louis after a weekend concert engagement at The Muny in Forest Park. The circumstances surrounding his hospitalization were not immediately clear.

Richie, 77, has experienced a number of health issues over the summer that led to the cancellation of several shows. In July, he reassured fans via social media, stating he was "doing well" and expressing gratitude for their support. This followed a previous incident where he was forced to postpone concerts due to feeling "dizzy" during a tour opener in Minnesota.

At the time of the postponements, the United Center announced that Richie's scheduled concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, would not proceed as planned, citing doctors' orders for him to rest and recover. An Instagram post from the time indicated that Richie was "heartbroken to postpone" but eager to return to performing.

In late June, a public information officer for the St. Paul Fire Department confirmed that an individual was transported from the Grand Casino Arena to a local hospital. Reports from the Minnesota Star Tribune indicated that during a concert at the arena, Richie paused his performance, took a seat, and later told the audience he was feeling lightheaded. He reportedly joked with the crowd about the situation.

Richie has been a judge on "American Idol" for nine seasons.
