Lionel Richie was forced to cut short the opening night of his "Sing A Song All Night Long" tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday after falling ill on stage. The 77-year-old performer experienced dizziness and fatigue during his set at the Grand Casino Arena.
Richie announced an unusual intermission following his performance of "Three Times A Lady." According to reports, he felt dizzy while performing "Dancing On The Ceiling," the second-to-last song of the evening. He was observed sitting on his piano bench multiple times during the song and eventually left the stage.
After more than 30 minutes, a band member reportedly returned to the stage to inform the audience that Richie would not be able to continue due to illness. Fans in attendance shared their concerns on social media, noting that Richie had appeared unwell throughout the performance. One concertgoer recounted Richie telling the crowd, "if you feel dizzy you sit down! And if you don’t feel right, you sit down!"
The tour, which is scheduled to visit 26 cities through August 14, featured Earth, Wind & Fire performing during the first half of the concert, with Richie taking the stage for the second half.
Richie's representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding his condition.
