Music legend Lionel Richie concluded his concert early Wednesday evening in Saint Paul, Minnesota, after experiencing dizziness on stage. The incident occurred at the Grand Casino Arena during the opening night of his "Sing A Song All Night Long Tour" with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Richie, 77, was performing his 1986 hit "Dancing on the Ceiling" when he began to repeatedly sit down while singing. He acknowledged to the audience that he was "feeling dizzy." Following the song, he sat at the piano to perform "Three Times a Lady," but then called for an intermission and left the stage. His band waited for approximately 15 minutes before returning to inform the crowd that Richie would not be able to continue the show.
"Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well," saxophonist Dino Soldo told the audience. "He won’t be able to continue with the show, and additional information will be available. Thank you for your patience and your understanding. It’s been amazing."
Richie has not yet commented on the incident via his social media platforms. He is scheduled to perform next on Friday at the United Center in Chicago, with more than two dozen other tour dates planned. Hours before the Saint Paul concert, Richie had posted photos on Instagram from his rehearsal and soundcheck, expressing anticipation for the opening night.
