Lionel Richie was forced to cut short the opening night of his tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, after feeling unwell on stage.
Nearly an hour into his performance at the Grand Casino Arena, the 77-year-old singer paused while performing "Dancing on the Ceiling." According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Richie told the crowd he was feeling dizzy and sat down on a platform.
Richie then transitioned to the piano and performed "Three Times a Lady" while seated. Audience members were told that the singer was not feeling well and would not be able to continue the show. Fans waited for an additional 40 minutes before receiving an official update from Richie's saxophonist.
The concert, which had been scheduled to last approximately 90 minutes, ended about 55 minutes after it began. Richie had expressed excitement for the tour kickoff on social media earlier that day, posting photos from backstage and rehearsals.
John Paris, the drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that Richie had shown no signs of illness prior to the performance and later explained he felt "a little dehydrated." Richie is scheduled to perform next in Chicago on Friday, with the tour expected to conclude on August 14 in Austin, Texas.
