Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis are bringing their concept album “Warriors” to Broadway, with previews set to begin next March and an opening planned for April at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. This marks Miranda’s first full musical production for Broadway since the record-breaking success of “Hamilton.”

Directed by Jenny Koons, the musical will feature a book by Miranda and Davis. The creative team has not yet announced casting for the production. Miranda and Davis expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating in a release, “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can’t wait.”

The “Warriors” musical is based on a 2024 concept album, which itself draws from the 1965 novel and the cult classic 1979 film of the same name. The story centers on a fictional street gang, the Warriors, who must navigate from the Bronx to their home base in Coney Island, Brooklyn, while evading rival gangs and law enforcement.

For the 2024 concept album, Miranda and Davis reimagined the narrative, notably featuring an all-female iteration of the Warriors. The album boasted a diverse and impressive roster of artists contributing to various roles, including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Marc Anthony, Colman Domingo, Cam’ron, Shenseea, and Joshua Henry. The musical styles on the album spanned salsa, ska, agro-rock, boy band, pop, old-school rap, and K-pop, incorporating Spanish and Korean alongside English lyrics. The album included songs like “We Got You,” a R&B track, and “Quiet Girls,” described as a feminist anthem.
