Lili Reinhart has kicked off the press tour for her new romantic comedy, "The Love Hypothesis," by channeling iconic style from the golden age of rom-coms. For an appearance in Brazil on Sunday, the actress donned a striking recreation of the butter-yellow silk gown famously worn by Kate Hudson in the 2003 film "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."
Reinhart, 29, shared photos of the ensemble on Instagram, referencing Carly Simon's song "You're So Vain" with a caption quoting the lyric, "You probably think this song is about you." The actress's stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, revealed that the dress is a 2000s Caché dupe, released shortly after the original film.
The original yellow gown was a custom creation by Carolina Herrera, designed in collaboration with the movie's costume designer, Karen Patch. Two versions of the dress were made to perfectly match the color of the Isadora diamond on the Harry Winston necklace featured in the film's gala scene. However, Hudson has previously stated she has no recollection of the dress's current whereabouts, telling ELLE in 2021, "I have no idea where that dress is!"
Nasser indicated that this dress is the first in a series of fashion tributes planned for Reinhart's press tour, stating that the actress "will be paying homage to the leading ladies of the Golden Age of rom-coms and romance films throughout." He explained that the team chose to begin with such an iconic look for Brazil, acknowledging the passion and dedication of the fans there.
The fashion tribute comes as reports suggest a sequel to "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is in development at Paramount. While the project is in its early stages, with no cast or screenwriter yet attached, Kate Hudson is attached to produce. The original film starred Hudson as Andie Anderson, a magazine writer, and Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive, whose plans to manipulate each other evolve into genuine romance over 10 days.
McConaughey recently commented on the enduring popularity of the film, calling it his most lucrative work and a significant anchor in the rom-com genre. He noted that the film continues to generate substantial residuals, particularly in March due to Valentine's Day viewership. He also expressed his belief that the film's narrative structure readily supports a sequel.
Hudson herself hinted at the possibility of a sequel in June, posting a side-by-side image of scenes from the movie featuring the characters at a New York Knicks game, accompanied by the caption "Déjà vu" and a winking emoji.
