Lil Wayne did not appear for the opening night of his "20 Years of Carter Classics" tour in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday, leaving fans who had gathered at the Maine Savings Amphitheater disappointed and outraged. The rapper, 43, was scheduled to headline the event, but after opener 2 Chainz performed and a DJ played music, Lil Wayne never took the stage.
His set was slated to begin at 10:45 p.m. By 11 p.m., attendees were informed that the show was over, with no immediate explanation given for the Grammy winner's absence. Alex Gray, president of Waterfront Concerts, apologized to the audience, noting that this was the first such occurrence in the company's 251-show history. Gray stated the venue had requested and received a curfew extension from the city to facilitate the concert.
Concertgoers voiced their frustration. One attendee, Rita Sack, who reportedly drove over six hours from Nova Scotia, described the experience as "terrible," emphasizing the wasted time and disappointment. "We paid for Lil Wayne. The least you can do is come out for a minute, apologize, you know?" Sack said. "Like, just take the moment and be like, ‘Hey guys, sorry, not feeling it, feeling a little sick.'"
Online, fans criticized Lil Wayne after he posted unrelated content on X (formerly Twitter) the following morning. "You’re a POS for wasting(sic) Bangors money!!!!" one user commented. Another wrote, "I was front row at the Maine show! My fiancé and I were so excited to see you! It was a gift for her and you ruined the night by not showing up!"
Later on Wednesday night, Lil Wayne issued an apology via Instagram, announcing that the Bangor concert had been rescheduled for July 28. "My Maine fans, I’m so sorry," he wrote in a statement. "Please hold on to your tickets, they will be honored for the rescheduled date. More information will be emailed directly to ticket holders."
He added, "I ain’t s— without you. I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve." Lil Wayne is scheduled to continue his tour with performances in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Thursday and Guilford, New Hampshire, on Friday. The "20 Years of Carter Classics" tour, an extension of his "Tha Carter VI Tour," is set to run through October with additional dates across the country.
