Investigators later found drugs in his system, along with drug paraphernalia and alcohol scattered throughout the hotel suite where he had been staying. Cassidy and Payne had dated for about two years and were vacationing in Argentina for nearly two weeks before she left Buenos Aires to return to Florida to be with her dog. A friend told The Post that Payne begged Cassidy to stay and that he seemed to spiral after she flew back without him.
Payne's death occurred while the couple were on a vacation that appeared to reinforce the private nature of the relationship for much of its duration. A few days after Payne's death, Cassidy posted, “Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.” She added, “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.” Cassidy later honored him by baking a cake on what would have been his 32nd birthday on Aug. 29, demonstrating ongoing public signs of remembrance.
