Prime Video has released "Elle," a new prequel series delving into the formative years of Elle Woods, the iconic character from the 2001 film "Legally Blonde." The series, set in 1995, follows a teenage Elle as she navigates high school, discovering new friendships, experiencing romantic drama, and developing the confidence that would later define her.

Actress Lexi Minetree, a 25-year-old from Georgia, takes on the role of the young Elle Woods. Minetree, a graduate of the University of Southern California with degrees in Theatre and Public Relations, also trained at the British American Drama Academy in London. Her previous acting credits include an appearance on "Law & Order: SVU."

Minetree was discovered through an open casting call for the "Elle" series. Reese Witherspoon, who originated the role of Elle Woods and serves as an executive producer on the prequel, announced Minetree's casting via Instagram. Minetree's audition tape, which featured her own rendition of Elle Woods' famous Harvard admissions video, reportedly impressed the production team. Witherspoon described seeing Minetree's audition as a breathtaking moment, stating that the young actress understood the essence of the character.

"Elle" aims to explore the experiences that shaped Elle Woods before her journey to Harvard Law School. The original "Legally Blonde" film depicted Elle's determination to win back her boyfriend by proving herself at the prestigious law institution, a narrative that has been celebrated for its themes of empowerment and self-confidence.

Reese Witherspoon has expressed significant involvement and enthusiasm for Minetree's portrayal. During the series' New York City premiere, Witherspoon shared an emotional account of the casting process, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with embodying such a beloved character. She recounted a Zoom meeting with Minetree where, unbeknownst to the actress, the job was essentially hers.

The "Elle" series is now available for streaming on Prime Video. Amazon Prime subscriptions, which include Prime Video access, can be obtained through a 30-day free trial. Monthly subscriptions cost $14.99, with an annual option at $139. Discounted memberships are available for young adults.
