Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, is set to auction a collection of 27 classic cars valued at over £3 million. The auction, scheduled for July 25 at Silverstone, will feature a significant number of British-manufactured vehicles, alongside some Mercedes and BMW models.
The centerpiece of the collection is a 1993 Jaguar XJ220, with only 3,800 miles on the odometer, which is expected to fetch up to £550,000. Also headlining the sale is a recreation of Jaguar's rare XKSS, valued at £375,000.
The collection includes several other notable Jaguar models: two 'continuation' C-type cars, replicas of models that achieved success at Le Mans and in the Mille Miglia, each estimated at £225,000. Three E-Type Jaguars are also featured, including two 1967 Series 1 roadsters, valued at £100,000 each, and a Series 3 V12 expected to sell for £60,000.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are represented by a 1960 190 SL with a guide price of £120,000, a 2013 C63 AMG Edition 507 estimated at £38,000, and a 1989 300SL once owned by boxer Billy Walker, valued at £50,000. This reflects Lewis Hamilton's lengthy tenure with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
Aston Martin is represented by a 1982 Lagonda, a 1970s Series 3 V8, and a rare 1990s V8 Coupe, with each of the latter two expected to sell for £100,000 and £65,000 respectively. The collection also features several collectable Triumph models, including an Italia coupe estimated at £100,000 and a significant TR5 prototype predicted to attract bids up to £90,000. Two Triumph Spitfires are also included, with prices expected between £22,000 and £24,000.
A notable portion of the collection comprises classic Minis. High-value 1960s Mini Cooper S variants include a 970 S (£38,000), a 1071 S (£38,000), and a 1275 S (£35,000). The sale will also include two David Brown Mini Remastered creations, each anticipated to sell for around £80,000. Additionally, a 2016 David Brown Speedback GT, a rare modern grand tourer inspired by 1960s design, is expected to sell for £240,000.
Lionel Abbott, a car specialist at Iconic Auctioneers, described the collection as a "superbly curated group of cars with real depth, quality and personality," highlighting a clear passion for characterful British motoring. The auction will be held during the British Racing Drivers Club's Classic weekend at Silverstone.
