Lauren Sanchez Bezos announced her second children's book, "The Fly Who Flew Under The Sea," which is scheduled for publication on March 3, 2026. The new installment in the Flynn the Fly series centers on themes of overcoming learning differences and caring for the planet through exploration and conservation.
According to a publisher press release and an Instagram post from Sanchez Bezos, the picture book follows Flynn after the character takes a wrong turn on the way to Cape Canaveral and embarks on an undersea voyage. The story traverses coral reefs, mangrove forests, undersea mountain ranges and encounters with deep-sea creatures, and the book includes glow-in-the-dark elements to bring the marine landscapes to life. Sanchez Bezos wrote on Instagram, "Get excited!!! The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea is here! Flynn dives into the deep blue! Pre‑order now; releasing March 3rd 2026." Friends Kris Jenner and Jessie James Decker were among those who liked the post.
The book is illustrated by Raleigh Stewart and will be published by Simon & Schuster in partnership with The Collective Book Studio, a woman-owned full-service publishing studio. The press release described the title as an "unforgettable glow-in-the-dark journey under the sea" that encourages young readers to embrace their uniqueness while learning about ocean biodiversity.
Flynn the Fly will also serve as the official Spokesfly/Portavoz for the United States of Readers, a literacy support program developed by Scholastic. The program, delivered through a partnership with a new nonprofit called Impact Reading, is aimed at students attending high-need schools with limited access to books. Under the initiative, every child in participating schools will be able to choose 10 new books free of charge over the school year, and each participating teacher will receive 25 free books for classroom libraries, the announcement said. Scholastic and partners said the program is intended to encourage reading and build confidence and literacy skills among students with limited access to quality reading materials.
Sanchez Bezos, a New York Times bestselling author, has cited her own experience with dyslexia as an influence on her work. Her first Flynn the Fly title, "The Fly Who Flew To Space," became a New York Times bestseller after its release. She is also vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, has been involved with philanthropy focused on climate and underserved communities through organizations including the Day 1 Families Fund and Bezos Academy, and has promoted literacy initiatives in connection with her writing. In 2025 she served as mission lead on Blue Origin’s NS-31, marking the first all-female space flight since 1963, a point the announcement referenced in outlining her interests in exploration and education.
Simon & Schuster and The Collective Book Studio described the new title as a family-friendly educational book that combines natural history with a message of self-acceptance. Pre-orders were made available at the time of the announcement, and the publishers confirmed the March 3, 2026 release date.
The Flynn the Fly series will continue to be positioned at the intersection of entertainment, education and advocacy, with the new book tying its storytelling to both environmental themes and a formal literacy outreach partnership designed to expand access to books for children in high-need schools.
