Garret Dillahunt, who plays William Macon in HBO's 'Lanterns,' has shared insights into a notable nude scene featured in the series' fourth episode, titled "The Weenie." The scene occurs when Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) infiltrate Macon's compound and are subsequently captured.
Dillahunt described the moment, in which his character disrobes and asks John Stewart, a former art student, to draw him, as a "big power play." He elaborated that the action reflects Macon's extreme confidence and his perceived security. "I guess he just wants to express that he's secure in his own manhood," Dillahunt told DECIDER. He also noted the strategic oddity of the move, given that the individuals he is confronting are known for their fearlessness.
Co-star Poorna Jagannathan, who plays a different character, commented that the scene "upends the world a little bit," adding to the episode's increasingly strange atmosphere.
Dillahunt stated that he was given advance notice of the scene, allowing him time to prepare, which he appreciated. He affirmed that the filming environment was professional and comfortable, with director Geeta Patel ensuring his safety. "Everyone was chill about it. The director, Geeta Patel, of that particular episode just really was concerned that I felt safe and you know they had it pre-lit and they did a lot of," Dillahunt said.
The episode "The Weenie" is currently available for streaming on HBO Max. 'Lanterns' airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
