Lady Victoria Hervey said she was "amazed" that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's marriage has lasted as long as seven years, telling Closer magazine that the couple's ties to their children and a relocation to the United States may have been significant factors.

Hervey, who briefly dated Prince Andrew in 1999, told the magazine that the Sussexes’ relationship "seems to have been quite rocky" in recent years and suggested the move to the U.S. may have affected the couple. "I'm amazed their marriage has lasted as long as this — I'm sure it's only because of the kids, because it seems to have been quite rocky for a while," she said. "She got him to move his whole life, and now she's back where she grew up."

The comments come months after Meghan, 44, described her relationship with Prince Harry, 40, as enduring during a podcast appearance in which she said the pair would be together "forever" and that they were in "more of a honeymoon period" than ever. The couple married in 2018 and resigned as senior working members of the British royal family in 2020, subsequently relocating to Montecito, California — a decision widely covered in the media and often referred to as "Megxit."

Hervey’s remarks were published in Closer and reported by U.K. outlets. She did not provide new information about the Sussexes’ private life beyond her assessment of how relocation and family considerations may have influenced the couple.

Public attention on the Sussexes has remained high since their departure from senior royal duties, with coverage spanning interviews, public appearances and their media ventures. The couple have been open about some aspects of their relationship and public life, while other elements have remained private. Hervey’s comments add a socialite's perspective to ongoing public discussion about how the shift in lifestyle and geography has intersected with family life for the Sussexes.

Representatives for Harry and Meghan did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Hervey’s remarks.
