Kylie Minogue embraced her musical past for a recent photoshoot, sporting a corkscrew perm reminiscent of her 1980s style. The session coincided with the 25th anniversary of her influential album "Fever," which featured chart-topping hits like "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "Love At First Sight."
For the cover of Perfect magazine, Minogue, 58, donned the voluminous curls along with a knitted jumper, fishnet tights, and sparkly stilettos. The album "Fever" marked a significant turning point for Minogue's career, representing her breakthrough into the American market. Prior to its release, she did not have a record label in the United States.
Reflecting on the period, Minogue described the aftermath of the album's success as a "whirlwind." She recalled the rapid pace of her career, noting, "I didn't have an American record label before it (Fever) came out – next thing I did, and next thing they flung me on a G5 to Cancun to do something or other." She added that if she had anticipated the ensuing events, it might not have felt as chaotic, but acknowledged it was "crazy in a great way."
The photoshoot also paid homage to other significant looks from her career, including a reference to the pixie cut from her 1997 album "Impossible Princess." Minogue showcased various fashion ensembles, including denim looks, a tweed dress with button detailing, a PVC midi skirt paired with a spaghetti strap top, and chunky platform heels.
Minogue also spoke about the significance of the female gaze in directing her music videos, particularly for "Can't Get You Out of My Head." She credited the director, Dawn, for her crucial role in shaping the video's aesthetic. "You need your collaborators, you need a team, those people to help you get there. Or I do, at least. So she was instrumental," Minogue stated. "The female gaze of the director is it. And also, Dawn is just… She is cool. So she is only going to do cool stuff."
Recently, Minogue shared a stage with pop icon Madonna at WorldPride in Amsterdam for an impromptu performance of "Love Sensation." Madonna's latest album, "Confessions II," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in July.
