Kurt Russell has joined the cast of The Madison, the Taylor Sheridan‑created Yellowstone spinoff, Entertainment Weekly reported Thursday.

The Tombstone star, 74, has signed on in an undisclosed role opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in the neo‑Western series, which also features Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox and Elle Chapman. It was not immediately clear whether Russell will appear in episodes slated for the initial run or in a subsequent season.

The Madison began filming in Montana in August 2024 and continued production in Texas in November and December of that year, according to reports. The series was created by Sheridan and produced by 101 Studios for Paramount. Paramount has not officially announced a renewal for a second season.

David Glasser, chief executive of 101 Studios, told the Fort Worth Star‑Telegram that production on a second season is scheduled to begin later this month, a timeline that would move the project forward if greenlit by the studio. The production company did not provide additional details on casting or the release schedule.

Russell’s casting adds a high‑profile name to a series already anchored by Academy Award nominee Pfeiffer. The Madison expands Sheridan’s franchise set in the contemporary American West, which began with Yellowstone and has spawned multiple related projects.

Neither Paramount nor representatives for Russell, Pfeiffer or Sheridan immediately responded to requests for comment. Entertainment Weekly first reported Russell’s involvement, and the casting was later covered by other outlets.

The Madison’s storyline and Russell’s character have been kept under wraps by the creative team. The series has been described by producers as a neo‑Western, and early production in Montana reflected the franchise’s continued emphasis on landscapes and ranch‑era themes.

As with other entries in the Sheridan universe, expectations for the series have been shaped by the commercial success and cultural profile of Yellowstone. The parent show’s popularity prompted Paramount and its partners to invest in multiple spinoffs and related projects, though each new series follows its own production timetable and renewal process.

With Russell’s participation confirmed, The Madison adds another veteran film star to television projects emerging from established film actors’ increasing presence on the small screen. Further casting and production announcements are expected as the series progresses through its production schedule.
