Kristen Stewart has reflected on her time filming the "Twilight" movies, admitting that she and co-star Robert Pattinson took their roles too seriously.
Stewart, 36, appeared on the "In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele" podcast, where she described herself as a "pretentious little loser" for her earnest approach to playing Bella Swan in the first film, released in 2008. She recalled how she and Pattinson felt they needed to "elevate" the material.
"It was so so serious," Stewart said, mocking her younger self. "Me and Rob were like, ‘Yeah, this is like f—-ing epic, like, let’s try and, like, elevate this s—t.’ And it’s like, just be exactly what age you are, and like say the words."
Stewart was 17 when she filmed the first "Twilight" and described her and Pattinson's attitude as "teenage." She joked about the pressure to be "real" on set, saying, "Everyone’s like making it f-—king impossible for it to be like f—king real.' And then you look at it, and you’re like, it was f—king real."
Despite the intense fandom and ongoing discussion surrounding the franchise, Stewart stated she isn't annoyed by continued questions about the films and would be open to making another "Twilight" movie.
Pattinson, 40, shared a similar sentiment in an April interview with Vogue, expressing no regrets about his performance. "I really love that movie. I think I would have done it exactly the same — to be honest, I don’t even think I’d be able to do the performance now," he said. "Everybody was approaching it so earnestly and took it really, really, really seriously. There was no kind of tongue-in-cheek element. No one’s winking at the audience. It’s like it’s very real, which is strange for a movie about a vampire romance."
The "Twilight" franchise, based on Stephenie Meyer's novels, spawned five films, with the final book "Breaking Dawn" split into two parts. Stewart and Pattinson dated for four years after meeting on the first film.
Stewart is now married to writer and director Dylan Meyer, who directed her in the upcoming stoner comedy "The Wrong Girls," which also stars Alia Shawkat. Stewart and Meyer married in April 2025.
