Kirsty Gallacher said she and her partner, former rugby player Darren Clayton, would like to be engaged in future but are in no hurry to marry because they are happy with their life as it is.

The 49-year-old television presenter told The Mirror that while both she and Clayton, 39, think engagement would be "nice," they are reluctant to change a relationship that is already working. "I think we would love to be engaged, but married? It's such a hard one, because we are so happy right now. Why would we change that? But do we both think it would be nice? Yes, of course – and we're both on the same page with that," she said.

The couple have been together for about a year and five months after meeting through their mutual friends Gabby and Kenny Logan. Gallacher said she has embraced a stepmother role in Clayton's family and described the relationship in affectionate terms.

Gallacher has two sons, Oscar, 18, and Jude, 14, from her previous relationship with former rugby player Paul Sampson; the pair split in 2015. Clayton has an eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Gallacher said that blending the families has been a positive experience for her.

The presenter, known for her work on British television, has spoken publicly about her private life at intervals since her split from Sampson. Her comments about engagement follow a period in which she has discussed family dynamics and balancing parenting responsibilities with her public career.

Gallacher's remarks underline a common approach among couples who have established families and careers: expressing interest in formalising a relationship while weighing the personal and practical implications of marriage. She emphasised that any future decision would reflect what is best for the family as a whole, and that she and Clayton currently share the same outlook on their relationship.

There was no immediate indication of plans for a proposal, and Gallacher did not provide a timetable for any formal engagement. She instead stressed contentment with the present arrangement and mutual agreement with Clayton about the direction of their relationship.
