Twenty-eight years after first portraying Samantha Jones in "Sex and the City," Kim Cattrall continues to impress with her appearance as she approaches her 70th birthday. The actress has shared her evolving philosophy on aging and the methods she employs to maintain her looks and figure.
Cattrall, who celebrates her birthday on Friday, has stated that her perspective on aging has shifted. While she once aimed to "embrace aging," she now admits to "battling aging in every way I can," including the use of Botox and fillers. She views these procedures not merely as vanity but as a professional necessity for playing certain roles. "For professionally I am looking after myself," she told The Sunday Times.
She acknowledges that her financial status allows her considerable freedom in pursuing cosmetic enhancements. However, Cattrall emphasizes the importance of maintaining one's own likeness. "You want to look like you!" she advised, recommending that anyone considering cosmetic surgery find a qualified surgeon to achieve the best version of oneself.
In her skincare routine, Cattrall uses products containing vitamin C, peptides, and retinol, describing it as a "boost of love and attention." She noted in an advertisement for Lancôme's Rénergie Triple Serum Retinol, "this will fade your wrinkles — not your smile."
Regarding makeup, Cattrall's approach has become more minimalist. "As I get older, less really is a lot more. I don't want to start wearing a lot of makeup," she told People. She prioritizes allowing her skin to breathe and focuses on daily sunscreen and moisturizer application.
To maintain her physique, Cattrall incorporates regular physical activity into her life. She aims for cardio sessions three to four times a week and engages in "physio yoga" to manage past injuries and rehabilitate her body. She finds that longer walks provide effective and satisfying cardio, preferring less jarring exercises as she gets older. Swimming is another activity she enjoys.
Cattrall has credited physio yoga with helping to alleviate chronic knee pain stemming from stage rehearsals and demanding filming schedules.
Her dietary choices include following the anti-inflammatory Perricone Diet. Cattrall, who has a significant appetite, stated she eats what she desires but is mindful of her intake. "I always have that in my mind" regarding the effort required to lose weight for roles, she said, recalling the "hard work" involved.
Looking back on her 60s, Cattrall identified patience and appreciating her accomplishments as key lessons. She also stressed the importance of surrounding herself with supportive individuals. "I don't think we should take our girlfriends or our mentors for granted because they've been there, and that knowledge, you can't find in a doctor's office," she told New Beauty.
