Kevin Federline dismissed a recent jibe from Sam Asghari about Federline branding himself a “professional father,” saying he was unbothered by the comment and that every father should strive to be one.
Speaking to a photographer in Hawaii on Wednesday, Federline, 47, laughed at Asghari’s remark and said, "I’m not too worried about what Sam thinks, but I do love the tagline ‘professional father.'" He added, "I think every father should strive to be a professional father." Federline also said he wants his former wife, Britney Spears, to be "happy" and "healthy."
The exchange follows comments Asghari, 31, made to a paparazzo in Los Angeles last month ahead of the release of Federline’s memoir, You Thought You Knew, set to hit shelves next month. When asked for his thoughts, Asghari quipped, "Well, he’s a professional father, so it would be the first book that’ll tell you how to be a professional father," and added, "I think every father should strive to be a professional father."
Federline’s forthcoming memoir is described by its publisher as charting his working-class childhood, his career as a dancer and his marriage to Spears, to whom he was married from 2004 to 2007. The publisher’s description says Federline became a household name during that turbulent marriage and "was reduced to a caricature in a world that barely knew him," and that the book will portray him as "a devoted father fighting for his children and his sanity."
During his marriage to Spears, the couple had two sons, Sean Preston, who is almost 20, and Jayden James, who turns 19. Federline has had full custody of the boys since his divorce from Spears. He is also father to Kori Madison, 23, and Kaleb Michael Jackson, 21, whom he shares with ex-fiancée Shar Jackson. Federline married his current wife, Victoria Prince, in 2013; their daughters are Jordan Kay, 14, and Peyton Marie, 11. The family moved from California to Hawaii in 2023.
Spears married Asghari in 2022; that marriage ended in 2024. Media attention around Federline has often centered on his former marriage to Spears and its aftermath, which his memoir aims to address. Federline has framed the book as an effort to tell his side of events that have shaped public perception of him.
Federline’s comments in Hawaii came as publicity and personal histories related to all three figures remain in the national spotlight. The memoir’s release next month is expected to renew public interest in Federline’s account of his life and family. He reiterated his primary concern is the welfare of his children and his hope that Spears is well.
