Kendall Jenner has stepped into the world of acting with her debut in the short Italian film "La Passeggiata." The film, which features Jenner as both a narrator and an actress, is the cover story for the September issue of the film magazine A Rabbit's Foot.
Directed and written by Fatima Khan, A Rabbit's Foot's creative director, "La Passeggiata" is inspired by the Italian tradition of an early evening stroll. The film translates this ritual to Los Angeles and draws visual inspiration from 1960s Italian cinema. Jenner portrays an actress navigating scenes at a funeral, on the street, and in a fashion atelier, exploring themes of "looking and being looked at."
Khan stated that she aimed to play with Jenner's public persona, noting, "Kendall has spent almost two decades as one of the most photographed women in the world, so I wanted to play with that reality rather than try to hide it." The film's concluding line, spoken by Jenner, is "Because movement leaves room for mystery," which Khan described as the piece's central thesis on the gap between being seen and being understood.
In an accompanying interview, Jenner, 30, reflected on her experience and the nature of celebrity. "Celebrity today feels constant. There's very little space between what's public and what's personal," she said. She distinguished between being looked at and being understood, explaining that true understanding involves seeing "into you – who you are."
Jenner expressed a long-standing fascination with cinema and the collaborative process of filmmaking. She cited "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and Paul Thomas Anderson's "Magnolia" as influential films. Her internal monologue, she noted, sometimes echoes movie lines, including a quote from "Moulin Rouge!" and the sentiment, "I'm not lonely. I'm alone."
The film's aesthetic features Jenner in a 1960s-inspired style, including scenes with sheer lingerie and stockings. The project also comes amid Jenner's reported romance with Australian actor Jacob Elordi, who is known for his roles in "Priscilla" and "Frankenstein."
This foray into acting aligns with a broader trend within the Kardashian-Jenner family. Her sister Kylie Jenner has dated actor Timothée Chalamet and appeared in the mockumentary "The Moment." Kim Kardashian has also taken on acting roles in various films and a television series.
Jenner also discussed the impact of fame on her personal life, emphasizing the importance of privacy and self-acceptance. "Fame has really taught me to protect and value my privacy," she stated. Regarding public perception, she highlighted sensitivity as something often misunderstood, adding, "Life is actually really long – it pays to be kind."
