Talk show host Kelly Ripa has revealed that an everyday habit led to severe gum recession and subsequent surgery. Ripa described her practice of brushing her teeth too much as a "good-bad habit" that has caused significant gum recession, necessitating a "re-gum" procedure.

The surgery, which Ripa admitted she had postponed for five years, was urgently advised by doctors who stated she no longer had the "luxury of time." The recovery process kept Ripa from participating in several live tapings of her morning talk show, "Live with Kelly and Mark."

During her recovery, Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos, shared that the most challenging aspect for her was adhering to the doctor's orders to refrain from speaking. Consuelos noted that Ripa, known for her conversation skills, found it difficult to remain silent. He humorously described his efforts to ensure she followed the recovery guidelines.

Consuelos also remarked that the procedure was particularly notable because Ripa typically does not complain about pain, even opting against novocaine during dental visits. He indicated that the severity of her discomfort from this surgery signaled a serious issue, stating, "But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad."
