Keeley Hawes has shared rare photographs of herself and her husband, Matthew Macfadyen, during a holiday in Istanbul, Turkey. The couple stayed at the five-star hotel The Peninsula and documented moments from their trip on Instagram.
One image captured the pair on a boat trip, with Hawes dressed in a patterned co-ord outfit, a baseball cap, and sunglasses. Another photo showed Macfadyen during a romantic dinner date. The actress, 50, and the actor, 51, met 24 years ago on the set of the television series Spooks.
Last November, Hawes marked 21 years of marriage to Macfadyen with a social media post. She has spoken about their relationship, telling You Magazine that they simply enjoy each other's company and have become more relaxed as they have gotten older. She also noted that with their children now grown, they prioritize spending time together, particularly through travel.
Their relationship began with a friendship on the set of Spooks. Macfadyen has previously described falling in love with Hawes as an "awful" experience because she was married at the time. He confessed to Mail On Sunday in 2005 that he realized he had feelings for her while she was still married to DJ Spencer McCallum, with whom she shares a son, Myles. Hawes stated that nothing occurred between them until her marriage ended.
Hawes recalled the moment Macfadyen first expressed his love for her, saying he told her "I love you" in the rain. Her divorce from McCallum was finalized in 2004, and she has maintained a friendship with her ex-husband.
The couple eloped and married in November 2004. Macfadyen described the wedding as a romantic occasion where he read a poem and Hawes cried. At the time, Hawes was heavily pregnant with their daughter. They welcomed their daughter, Maggie, the following month, and their son, Ralph, in 2006.
