KAWS, the artist also known as Brian Donnelly, has been recognized on the TIME100 Art List, highlighting his significant influence in the contemporary art world. The 51-year-old artist has achieved a rare balance of mainstream popularity and critical acclaim within the elite art establishment.

KAWS, who initially gained recognition as a graffiti writer, creates a diverse range of works including toys, paintings, and sculptures. His art features recurring characters inspired by pop culture, such as a figure that echoes Mickey Mouse. His commercial reach extends from paintings that have sold for as much as $15 million at auction to widely accessible items like $50 Uniqlo T-shirts that have driven substantial consumer demand.

His widespread appeal has translated into significant museum attendance. A traveling survey of his work in 2026 drew over 163,000 visitors to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, marking one of the highest attendances for shows involving children and teenagers since 2019. This year, KAWS is also featured in "KAWS: Art & Comic" at the Albertina Modern in Vienna.
