Katy Perry was forced to cancel her performance at the Belgian music festival Werchter Boutique on Saturday, just hours before she was scheduled to take the stage. The singer announced the cancellation via Instagram, stating that a government mandate due to incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns left her with "no choice."
Perry, who was slated to close out the festival following Pitbull's set, explained that she was backstage preparing when the news was delivered. "I am just as unhappy as you are," she wrote, emphasizing that the situation was beyond her control and that the safety of attendees was the top priority. She expressed regret that she could not change the weather or proceed with the show, apologizing to fans for not being able to celebrate her return to the festival stage after her last appearance in 2009. Perry had even planned to wear the same outfit from her 2009 performance.
The last-minute cancellation was attributed to predictions of severe thunderstorms. The festival organizers decided to end the event early at 9 p.m. to ensure a safe and orderly exit for all attendees. Perry's set had been scheduled to begin an hour later.
Perry is scheduled to perform at other festivals throughout the summer, including a date at Cardiff Castle in the U.K. on June 30. Recently, she released a new music video for her track "Watch It Burn." The video has been interpreted by some fans as a reference to her past relationship with Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter.
In a recent appearance on the "Unfamous" podcast, Perry discussed her new music, stating that she is "wrestling with my darkness" and that the past year was challenging. She reflected on her tendency to suppress anger but acknowledged her right to feel it. Perry also spoke about her current relationship, referring to her partner, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as "the love of my life." The couple publicly debuted their relationship earlier this month at the Tribeca Festival in New York City.
