Sophia Laforteza, a member of the girl group Katseye, has announced she is taking a break from the group to focus on her health. Laforteza shared the news on Instagram on August 7, stating her decision was difficult but necessary for her well-being.
"I’m learning that health has to come first," Laforteza wrote in her Instagram story. "I’m realizing that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long."
Laforteza, 23, expressed gratitude to the group's fans, known as Eyekons, for their patience and understanding. She promised to work on healing and returning to the group stronger. "Til then, please continue to be kind and give KATSEYE all your love and support as we fulfill our promise to show up for you in every way we can," she added.
This announcement comes approximately six months after Manon Bannerman, another member of Katseye, also took a hiatus to focus on her health and well-being. Bannerman's departure was announced in February, with the group stating they fully supported her decision and that she would focus on her health.
Katseye was formed in 2023 through the reality competition show "The Debut: Dream Academy" and is managed by HYBE and Geffen Records. The group is scheduled to begin their global Wildworld Tour on September 1 in Dublin. The tour will feature songs from their upcoming third EP, titled "Wild," which is set to release on August 14. It remains unclear if Laforteza will participate in the upcoming tour. Following Laforteza's announcement, the group now consists of four active members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung.
