Kate Winslet is reportedly in discussions to join the cast of the Netflix series "Adolescence" for its second season. The Oscar-winning actress is expected to lead a new storyline for the hit drama, which previously depicted the harrowing story of a troubled teenage boy.
The first season of "Adolescence," which starred Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper as 13-year-old Jamie, garnered significant attention for its unflinching portrayal of a teenager facing serious accusations. The series also sparked global conversations about teen social media use and the influence of online communities. It became one of Netflix's most-watched programs, achieving over 145 million views.
Stephen Graham, the show's star and executive producer, had previously hinted at a potential follow-up. In January, he suggested that he and writer Jack Thorne were considering future installments, though he indicated it might be several years away.
However, reports of Winslet's potential involvement suggest the project is further along in its development than previously indicated. Winslet, who has a history of starring in projects exploring the darker aspects of youth and technology, previously appeared in Channel 4's "I Am Ruth," a drama about a teenager's struggles with social media, alongside her daughter Mia. Producers for "Adolescence" and Netflix have been contacted for comment.
