Kate Moss was photographed using a designer handbag to carry a dog waste bag while walking her pets in Mayfair, as the model also prepares to host a new eight-part podcast for BBC Radio 6 Music exploring David Bowie’s early 1970s period.
The 51-year-old was seen on Friday walking her dogs, Archie and Stanley, with singer Sarah Nimmo. Moss wore a shirt and jeans while carrying what was reported to be a £35,000 Hermes Kelly handbag and unravelling a bag to collect one of the dogs’ deposits.
Photographs published alongside the sighting show Moss holding the leather Kelly bag on one arm as she attended to the animals. The bag has been publicly pictured on other recent outings: Moss was reportedly photographed using the same brown leather Kelly as a beach tote while holidaying in Ibiza with her daughter Lila last month.
Separately, the model announced she will host David Bowie: Changeling, an eight-episode series on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds that will examine Bowie’s artistic evolution between 1970 and 1975. The programme will include rare and previously unheard archive interviews with Bowie and contributions from artists and contemporaries including Elton John, Iggy Pop and Boy George, the BBC said.
Moss said in a statement that Bowie was “a very special person. Someone who was much more than a friend — he was an enigma.” She added that she was “excited to help share the story of such an incredible transformation.” The series will also draw on archive interviews and recently unearthed BBC audio, and is reported to feature archival material and voices ranging from Lady Gaga and Sinéad O’Connor to Lou Reed and Tracey Emin.
The podcast will explore topics such as Bowie’s early performances with The Hype, his relationship with visual artists including Andy Warhol, and the genesis of the albums The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. An exclusive 2001 interview with Des Shaw, the podcast’s creator, is also listed among the material to be included.
Moss and Bowie were friends for about a decade before his death in 2016. In interviews she has recounted moments from their friendship, including a 2014 anecdote in which she wore one of Bowie’s signature stage garments while accepting a BRIT Award on his behalf. She has also joked previously about trying to fit into some of his clothes and being unable to do so.
The Mayfair sighting comes amid renewed attention to Moss’s public profile on multiple fronts: beyond the Bowie project, the images of the model in Ibiza with her daughter and the current London walk illustrate how celebrities’ personal items and private moments often become the focus of media coverage. The BBC series is scheduled to appear on 6 Music and BBC Sounds in coming weeks; the broadcaster has said it will present previously unheard archival interviews alongside new commentary from artists and those who knew Bowie during the formative years under examination.
The Hermes Kelly is one of the luxury house’s signature styles and, like the Birkin, is frequently discussed in fashion coverage; reports of the bag’s value were included in coverage of Moss’s London walk. Representatives for Moss and for BBC Radio 6 Music did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
