Kate Hudson turned heads Saturday at the Warner Bros. Television Group's Emmy Awards Nominees Celebration in Los Angeles, arriving in a yellow satin gown that echoed the dress she wore as Andie Anderson in the 2003 rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
The 46-year-old actress's gown clung to her frame and flowed past her ankles; she wore her blonde hair parted in the middle in loose curls, carried a silver clutch and chose closed-toe pumps, opting for minimal jewelry and glammed-up makeup that included mascara, light eye shadow and a rosy lip tint. The gathering came one day before the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14.
Hudson's look drew comparisons to a notable scene in the film in which her character wears a sleeveless yellow satin gown. In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hudson said she did not know the location of the original movie costume, adding, "I'm sure it's somewhere. Paramount probably has it somewhere."
The actress, who mingled at the event with fellow attendees including Justin Theroux, has previously discussed the chemistry and rapport with her How to Lose a Guy co-star Matthew McConaughey. In a conversation with Variety, McConaughey said of their work together, "What tickles me doesn't bruise you. What tickles you doesn't bruise me. We were never afraid to push it to what might be considered too far." Hudson recalled a mutual willingness to take risks on set, saying she would go along with his choices and also try unexpected moves of her own.
Hudson has on multiple occasions said she and McConaughey are open to returning to the characters, but that a project would have to be "totally right." She told E! News in February that Andie would likely retain her taste for distinctive outfits and jewelry if revisited, while during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen she reiterated that both actors are "open" to a sequel, remarks later reported by Deadline.
Away from the red carpet, Hudson has continued to work in television and film. She starred in the Netflix series Running Point, which premiered in February and was renewed for a second season in March. Hudson is engaged to musician Danny Fujikawa; the couple share a daughter, Rani, 6. She is also mother to sons Ryder, 21, from her relationship with Chris Robinson, and Bingham, 14, with former partner Matt Bellamy.
The Warner Bros. Television Group event was one of multiple industry gatherings in Los Angeles ahead of the Emmys, where nominees, network representatives and talent typically assemble for pre-ceremony celebrations. Hudson's appearance revived visual references to a hallmark rom-com moment as the television industry prepared for Sunday night's awards show.
