Kate Garraway was left red-faced after accidentally ordering 12 tonnes of hardcore for a garden project, a delivery that blocked her front door and required help from a neighbor to access her home. The broadcaster, 58, revealed on Instagram that she had been aiming for about two tonnes but instead clicked on twelve.
Video recorded by neighbour musician Sency Miller shows Garraway arriving home to a mammoth pile of unbagged hardcore in the driveway, blocking entry. 'Ok so this is less than ideal!' she says in the clip, explaining the mix-up. 'Needed some hardcore for a small bit of garden reconstruction - was advised about 2 tonnes - clicked on TWELVE tonnes!!!!' Miller asks, 'How you gonna get in?' and Garraway responds, 'That's the question you need to ask.' She then questions the delivery method: 'Why didn't they send it in bags? Are you sure this is 2 tonnes?' Miller confirms, 'It's twelve tonnes, it's not 2 tonnes,' prompting Garraway to gasp, 'TWELVE?! Oh god that's my mistake.'
With the pile blocking the entry, Garraway eventually maneuvered around the obstacle, throwing bags over the fence and climbing over the hardcore with Miller's help to reach the front door.
Later that Sunday, Garraway posted about driving her daughter Darcey Draper, 19, back to university for the start of her second year. She described the moment as 'Another car picnic in the Vicky Volvo' and noted it was 'a very happy daughter duly delivered to uni.'
Darcey Draper, Kate's daughter with her late husband Derek Draper, started university last summer and headed back this week for her second year. Garraway posted about the transition and offered encouragement to other parents and students: 'Good luck to anyone starting something new this week, new jobs, new challenges. Let's make it a fantastic week.'
The garden mishap has become a light social moment for Garraway, who used the incident to share a candid glimpse of daily life. There were no injuries reported, and the episode adds a touch of humorous resilience to the broadcaster as she moves through a busy period including her daughter’s return to campus.
