Kate Ferdinand recently shared a series of summer photographs on Instagram, expressing contentment while addressing accusations that she married her husband, former footballer Rio Ferdinand, for money. The 35-year-old reality star posted the images on a Friday, accompanying them with the caption, "my cup is full."
The photos featured Ferdinand modeling several bikinis and a snapshot with her husband's sister, Sian. These posts come after Ferdinand spoke openly about the challenges of blended family life and the public's perception of her relationship with Rio, who has an estimated net worth of £57 million.
During a live chat, Ferdinand stated that some people believe she is a "gold digger" and described herself as Rio's "nanny that he doesn't pay." She countered these claims by asserting that if her motivation were solely financial, she could have chosen a less complicated path. "I'm here because I love you, there are great things and there are hard things," she said.
Rio Ferdinand also reflected on the dynamic of their relationship. He acknowledged that he has considered whether Kate's life might have been simpler without him and their blended family. "As much pain and hard yards we have brought to her life, I think it balances out the goodness we have brought to her life as well," he stated, also recognizing the stress their situation has placed on her.
Kate Ferdinand began dating Rio Ferdinand in 2016, a year after his first wife, Rebecca, died from breast cancer at age 34. At 25, Ferdinand stepped away from her reality television career to focus on becoming a stepmother to Rio's three children: Lorenz, 19, Tate, 18, and Tia, 15. The couple married in 2019 and later welcomed two more children, Cree, 5, and Shae, 2.
Rio described the transition from his wife's death to forming a blended family with Kate as not a "smooth transition." He explained that his mother, who had stepped in to help raise his children after Rebecca's death, also passed away, leaving him a single parent again before Kate's arrival. He emphasized the importance of allowing Kate the space to parent and to trust her while establishing boundaries.
"This is how I parent, this is what we do, now let's see your version," Rio said he communicated to Kate. "I can't just dictate. It's been a really open back and forth."
