Kate Beckinsale posted a series of photographs from her mother Judy Loe's funeral on Saturday, saying she felt “blindsided and devastated” by her death and that she still finds herself reaching to call her.
Beckinsale, 52, had announced in July that her mother, 78, died in her arms on July 15 after what she described as "immeasurable suffering." While the cause of death has not been publicly confirmed, Beckinsale previously said her mother had been battling stage four cancer for the last two years. In an Instagram caption accompanying the images, Beckinsale said she was "paralysed" with grief and often still goes to call her before realising there will be no answer.
The service took place at Chiswick House and was attended by family members, including Beckinsale's daughter Lily, 26, whom she shares with her ex-partner Michael Sheen. Beckinsale shared a photograph that showed Lily and Sheen embracing at the service. Beckinsale and Sheen were a couple from the mid-1990s until 2003.
In her social media post, Beckinsale reflected on the difficulty of the loss and the ways grief persists in everyday moments. She did not provide additional medical details about her mother's illness in the post.
Beckinsale first informed followers of her mother's death in July, describing the final moments and expressing the depth of her sorrow. Those earlier posts said Judy Loe had been ill for an extended period. The recent photographs and remarks underscore how the family marked a private funeral and the continuing personal impact on close relatives.
Friends, colleagues and fans have offered condolences since Beckinsale's announcement in the summer. The actress has not indicated further public memorials beyond the service at Chiswick House.
Judy Loe had been part of Beckinsale's life and career narrative for decades; the images and statements the actress shared documented the family's attempt to grieve and remember privately while acknowledging the shock and ongoing struggle of bereavement.
Beckinsale has resumed limited public activity since announcing the death, but her social posts and the funeral photographs emphasize the emotional toll and the family's efforts to support one another in the weeks following the loss.
