Scottish actress Karen Gillan found herself in a comical situation after Scotland's World Cup defeat to Brazil, accidentally boarding a bus filled with enthusiastic Brazilian supporters.
The "Doctor Who" star, 38, was in Miami to watch Scotland's final group match, which ended in a 3-0 loss, significantly dimming their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages. Gillan documented her journey to the stadium with co-star Tony Curran, which included a last-minute dash on foot due to gridlocked traffic, allowing them to arrive just in time for the national anthem.
Following the match, Gillan shared a video on Instagram showing herself and Curran on a coach packed with Brazilian fans. "I think we're on the wrong bus," she admitted. Despite the unexpected turn, the pair embraced the situation, sharing a positive exchange with the Brazilian supporters, even swapping shirts.
The defeat leaves Scotland in third place in their group with a negative goal difference, making their progression to the next round highly unlikely. Manager Steve Clarke expressed his disappointment after the match, stating, "We made it difficult for ourselves. We gave them the goals. We gave them the game they wanted." When questioned about the anxious wait for potential qualification, Clarke appeared visibly frustrated, responding, "I don't even think about that."
Clarke later acknowledged the players' efforts in the challenging heat and humidity but emphasized the need for improvement to compete at this level. He expressed pessimism about their chances, remarking, "For sure I think we're going home."
