London-based artist Kamal is emphasizing honesty and vulnerability as central themes in his debut album. The 13-track project, which features collaborations, aims to create meaningful music that resonates with listeners.
"The music is always going to be the leading factor and you don't even get the co-signs unless there's a little something there in the first place," Kamal stated in a recent interview. He plans to keep his longtime fans at the forefront of his work, noting that they recognize the "vulnerable writing" and "honesty" that he strives to embed in his music.
Songs like "Suffer" delve into themes of love and heartbreak, while "All My Favourite People Are Sad" explores depression and friendship. These tracks, alongside others on the album, reflect a deep level of introspection for the young artist. The music incorporates experimental tones that add a new dimension to his signature soft singing style.
Kamal, who describes his background as a blend of Trinidadian, Belizean, English, and Palestinian heritage, grew up surrounded by music. However, his connection to music predates any aspirations of fame, and he acknowledges that he still has much to learn.
"I feel like there's still a long way to go when I look at my music career, but I'm also very grateful for everything that's happened so far," he said. His commitment to authenticity extends to his content on platforms like TikTok, where he aims to reflect the same sincerity found in his music.
