Three K-pop idols experienced a moment of unexpected live television chaos when a cue card mishap led to an awkward pause during the 2026 SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer show. Sungchan, 24, from RIIZE, NCT Wish's Sion, 24, and Hearts2Hearts' Ian, 16, found themselves momentarily flustered while co-hosting the event.
As Sion appeared to prematurely end the segment and begin to exit the stage, Sungchan called him back. Both idols became visibly uncertain, glancing at their cue cards as Ian waved to the camera, attempting to fill the time. The trio appeared anxious as they re-examined their prompts before a producer stepped onto the stage to assist. A voice from off-camera was heard asking if they should restart the segment.
The hosts were eventually able to continue the broadcast without further incident. The incident drew mixed reactions from viewers online, with some expressing frustration over the mistake and others commending the idols' handling of the situation. Notably, all three performers are associated with SM Entertainment.
The incident also brought to light discussions about the rigorous training involved in the K-pop industry. Former SM Entertainment trainee Ejae, who has since achieved global success, recently shared details of her demanding 11-year training period. Her experience included lessons on posing, language acquisition, and strict dietary and appearance restrictions, such as being prohibited from chewing gum to maintain facial structure and avoiding certain foods to prevent bloating.
Ejae described the training as a process of learning "how to be a pop star," involving monthly photoshoots and language classes. She also detailed specific practices, such as balancing a ChapStick between the upper lip and nose to improve facial contours for posing, and the ban on ear piercings and sodas. While acknowledging the difficulty, Ejae stated she "learned a lot" during her time in training.
