Justin Bieber, Harry Styles Top List for Super Bowl Halftime Show
Organizers are reportedly eyeing the two pop superstars for the 2027 halftime performance in Los Angeles, though both may be hesitant to accept.
Super Bowl halftime show organizers have reportedly placed Justin Bieber and Harry Styles at the top of their shortlist for the 2027 game in Los Angeles. However, both artists are said to be unlikely to accept the offer if formally approached, according to TMZ.
The 2027 Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on February 14. Roc Nation, which partners with the NFL as a live music and entertainment strategist, is overseeing the selection process. Jay-Z, the head of Roc Nation, holds the final approval for the halftime show performer.
Despite the immense exposure and publicity the Super Bowl halftime show offers, it does not financially compensate the performers. This lack of payment is cited as a potential reason for Bieber and Styles' reluctance.
Last year's halftime show, headlined by Bad Bunny, marked the first non-English performance and sparked considerable discussion. Jay-Z highlighted the importance of diverse representation in popular music during a previous interview with GQ, emphasizing that his selections are typically the most streamed artists globally.
He defended the choice of Bad Bunny, stating, "I'm not going out on a limb, this is the most famous people in the world. I didn't pick, like, the indie artist that I really like from Portland - It's the number one most streamed artist in the world."
The Bad Bunny performance set viewership and social media records, though it ranked as the fourth-most-watched halftime show on U.S. television. Previous performances by Kendrick Lamar in 2025 and Usher in 2024 also garnered significant viewership.
Jay-Z has previously addressed the selection process for artists like Kendrick Lamar, explaining that choices are based on contemporary relevance and audience impact. "The stats show. Kendrick broke the audience record, it's not rocket science, this is the music of our time and it should be represented on the biggest stage," he stated. He dismissed notions of external influences on artist selections, emphasizing his role in choosing artists who are having a significant year.
