Julia Roberts and her niece Emma Roberts made a rare joint red carpet appearance Tuesday at New York Fashion Week, marking the first time the pair have posed together on the carpet in 13 years.
The aunt-and-niece duo coordinated in head-to-toe black, emphasizing their matching auburn hair as they posed alongside designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. Julia Roberts, 57, wore a sharply tailored suit while Emma Roberts, 34, chose a floor-length chiffon column dress that provided a softer counterpoint to her aunt’s menswear-inspired look.
Julia Roberts opted for an oversized blazer and barrel-leg trousers paired with a crisp white shirt and striped tie, completing the outfit with Jacquemus ankle boots. The look drew comparison to the boxy Armani suit and tie she wore to the 1990 Golden Globes, when she accepted a supporting actress award for “Steel Magnolias.” The actress has increasingly favored suiting on recent red carpets, including a Versace navy blazer and striped shirt at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year.
Emma Roberts’s dress featured spaghetti straps and a draped back, offering a more traditionally feminine silhouette next to her aunt’s structured tailoring. Emma’s hairstylist, Gonn Kinoshita, posted a closer look at the ensemble on Instagram following the appearance.
The red carpet reunion came as Julia Roberts continues to promote “After the Hunt,” a psychological thriller directed by Luca Guadagnino, in which she stars alongside Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield. Roberts also appears on the inaugural issue of 72 Magazine, a new publication from British Vogue alum Edward Enninful scheduled to hit newsstands Sept. 12.
The pair last appeared together on the red carpet at the 2012 premiere of “Jesus Henry Christ.” Their coordinated appearance at NYFW highlighted both a family moment and a fashion statement, drawing attention from photographers and attendees at one of the season’s major industry events.
